Why You Should Use Squarespace Instead of Linktree for Instagram

For a lot of us small business owners and solopreneurs, the aim of our social media strategy is usually more geared towards sending followers to our websites to do business than racking up those social media numbers.

With Instagram’s rule that only allows one link in your bio, that can feel pretty limiting for brands especially when you have a lot to offer your followers so you want to make sure that one link counts.

What does LinkTree exactly do?

One-link rule

This is where LinkTree comes in. It’s a popular third party app that helps brands work around that “one link” rule by creating a landing page so that you can house all your important links in one place. This allows any follower who is interested in learning more about you to tap on the link in your bio and get sent to a separate simple landing page.

It’s a simple, clever work-around that does the job! There are a lot of other similar 3rd party link in bio apps out there to help drive more traffic such as Campsite, Milkshake and Link.bio.

Why should I make the switch to Squarespace then?

Streamlining with Squarespace

One reason would be the ability to customize your bio’s design. Linktree’s free version is quite basic, so if you want to add any styling changes to stay on brand then you’ll have to get on their paid plan which can be expensive.

As a Squarespace user, you can design your landing page as much as you want without having to justify the extra cost. Another reason is the ability to keep everything under one roof and drive traffic from your website directly to your website instead of to a 3rd party app. However probably the biggest reason for me would be gaining control. You never know what could happen with a 3rd party app - it could glitch and crash one day, or perhaps Instagram itself could decide to completely ban it. Keeping everything on Squarespace means you can cut out the middle man altogether.

One of my favourite things about it is that Squarespace acts as an all-in-one business hub - email marketing, website hosting, analytics, membership sites, e-commerce, you name it. Squarespace in itself is quite easy to use and integrates with social media/tools so you don't need to be a tech wizard to make everything flow together.

That's it for now, I'd love to hear which option you ended up choosing or if you set your very own landing page. Feel free to drop me a message if you have any questions or comment below if you'd like me to create a demo of how to build an Instagram links page on your Squarespace site.
